BLOG No. 6 ~ GARY WOLFSTONE  :: "Aprilli-Päivä!"

WELCOME TO GARY WOLFSTONE'S BLOG 6 ~ Finland ~ Aprilli-Päivä [ April Fool's Day]

   Aprilli-Päivä [ April Fool's Day], also known as All Fools Day, goes back to Chaucer's Cantebury Tales -- and probably earlier. We spent the day with Dagmar, Johanna and Emelia at our Asunto. Mummie made purses yesterday with her ompelukone [sewing machine] after giving sewing lessons to Johanna. When Dagmar arrived this afternoon, Johanna claimed to be sairas [ill] and then jumped up shouting Aprilli-Päivä! ["April Fools Day!"]

   We enjoy our long walks on Arabia Ranta [Arabia Beach] along an inlet of the Baltic Sea. When I first arrived, on February 29th, the Baltic Sea inlets were still frozen and Finnish fishermen were frequently sitting in the middle of inlet fishing through holes drilled in the ice. The temps are still hoovering around freezing so some of the snow on the ground has not yet melted. At least the streets and walkways are mostly clear. I enjoy the cold air. My breath condenses and I am typically wearing layers of clothing -- it is a refreshing sensation.

   I suppose the two elephants in the photo below are exchanging April Fools Greetings ~ I can't think of any other rational explanation for their behaviour! Jack Nicholson has played many fabulous roles, however, his acting in the Batman movie was incredibly poor ~ even if the imagery was first rate! Thus, I review the film as mediocre and review the picture of "The Joker" (see photo) as excellent.
